Beautiful edifice befitting a Catholic church

This isnt Arenas. This place is the Basilica of the most Holy Trinity. The first and only Basilica in Nigeria. A place of prayer and pilgrimage.

Its a lovely and serene environment. The compound is really big so theres ample space for parking, events etc. When you step into the church, you feel the peace and quiet that comes with being in a holy place. Its a beautiful place of worship and everyone has something good to say about the archbishop. They could do better though in terms of providing air conditioning in the building. I think its about time.

A worship place for Catholics around Onitsha

The Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity is the corner church in onitsha town. The church is anchored on the edge of the River Niger. It harbours the remains of Nigerias Blessed Micheal Iwene Tansi, as such has become a pilgrimage ground. I really loved being here.

Like the Basilica in Rome and other ancient magnificent edifices, the sweats of the labourers who crafted them, are not in vain. The artists are celebrated too and thats why Michael Angelo is known world over. Having said that, it is worth a mention, that the Cathedral (ie the Chair on which the Episcopal Bishop sits on the Sanctuary) and the gigantic wooden doors were all carved by Prof. Uchefuna Okeke #FWLA #DDG #MFR #illustrator #ThingsFallApart. Basilica holds interesting historical pieces only observant minds could grasp. More so, in between the altar and the segment the congregation seat, lie the graves of the early missionaries like Shanaham etc and also that of the beloved Arch Bishop Albert Kenechukwu Obiefuna. Their bio data are engraved on the marble enclosure. The remains of Blessed Iwene Tansi is reposed at the right of the sanctuary.

The basilica is the central place of worship for Catholics in Onitsha arch diocese. It is also historical as it was the place the first missionaries in Onitsha landed. It is by the bank of river Niger and has lots of parking space. The basilica is a serene place of worship and there are priest always available to attend to your spiritual needs. The basilica is beautifully built, around it is a bookshop and the diocesan chancery. When next you visit Onitsha, try to visit this beautiful place of worship.

This is just the best Cathedral I know. It is very big. It has a well refurbished book center. It has a big chapel and the cathedral is well decorated with the statue of the Saints.It is really a good place to have retreat and a place to pray. You really need to be there.

A pilgrim centre, a place of worship

This is a historic place where the White Missionary priests landed first as they came out of the River Niger over a Century ago. That is the Headquarters of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province. There is located the Archbishop House and Office and the Archdiocesan Secretariat with the Rectory for the priests working there. The Basilica is at the centre of the compound. The school buildings are there too. The Brothers of St Stephen and Immaculate Heart Sisters live there too. The place for selling Religious Vestments and articles are there to. Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking existing.

The serenity that brings heaven close to you while praying

I so much love this catholic church, it have very comfortable chapel for personal devotions, and the time masses are good for people who love morning, mind morning or evening mass. And it have a nice hotel by CWO for visitors to lodge in, and very affordable for low income earners. It call Bethany house.

Conducive for prayer. Edifices call us to pray and meditate on the mystery of the Church. It is the heart of the church in the east of Nigeria.

It is a major tourist site. The major facilities in the complex are, an ancient cathedral, now the only basilica in Nigeria, a specialist hospital, the relics of blessed iwene tension, and tombs of former archbishops, giant golden statues of the twelve apostles adorn the compound, a major bookshop,several schools,convents, with a terraced approach to the banks of the Niger. Beside this complex is the largest market in West Africa.

Beautiful aesthetic buildings

Its a great place to be, you feel the presence of God around, with the statues of the 12 Apostles that stand on both the left and right of the main entrance, it makes you have the feeling like giant Knights are protecting the Church

Its a quaint old church located along the banks of the Niger River. Its also a basilica with one of the best choirs around.

Nice Ambience at the Basilica

Very poor in terms of Spiritual worship. Emphasis was on fund raising. Came for 10.30am mass and stood outside for 2hrs because 8.30 mass was still raising funds. Reminded me what Jesus did in the Bible when He drove out Jews from the temple because they were buying and selling in the temple.

If you ever find yourself in onitsha and looking for a place to worship and feel like God is about to descend from the alter and chills as well in every single moments during the mass here is your one stop, Basilla of the most Holy Trinity the very first place to be arrived by the Missionaries in onitsha apart from that this place also has a lot to offer in time of historical stuff like the burial grounds of well renowned priests like Blessed iwenea Tansis, it also has the status of the 12 disciples of jesus and also they have a school where you can send your kids, they also have an open field where all the activities are been hosted and to top it all they also have a hall where you can host your event and a parking lot for all your guest that are mobile without them worrying during the event.

Basilica of the most holy Trinity cathedral Onitsha is one of the oldest Catholic church in the city, and hence a tourist destination as well as a historical landmark.Locating here from the popular Asaba-Onitsha-Awka express is a bit difficult though it was quite easier for me.The Architectural design of the building is top notch.
