Accessibility ♿✔ Although the museum is small, not well maintained and preserved, yet its a good and historical place amd accessible as well. The artifacts on display are so real and ancient. I like the tour guide, kudos to him for making these history of the Niger delta come alive. He was quite professional, knowledgeable, Friendly and nice when taking you around the museum. I paid a token entrance fee. The token fee, varies from children to groups to individuals. Our culture and traditions are priceless, it makes you proud and alive. Nice to know the background and historical facts of our people, the stories are interesting. Its beautiful, happy I went !!!

The National Museum Rivers State, is a treasure trove of the culture and history of the Rivers People. Although not given the priority it deserve by the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the museum still holds a shadow of the rich culture and traditions of the rivers man. It is located opposite the popular Delta Hotels, and few meters away from the Rivers State Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, on the West, and the Port Harcourt Mall, on the East. The Museum has a Kitchen where Rivers native delicacies are prepared. If you want a real native soup with fresh fish and other sea foods such as oyster, lobster, prawns, periwinkle, crabs, clam, mussel, etc; the kitchen is the best place to visit. It also has a mini-hall that hosts small club or association meetings

They have some artefacts in here but the place needs more attention from the government. It could be way better. Visited it about 10months ago and I wasnt impressed. Wanted to bring my kids but there is really not much history to share with them here.

This actually a federal museum and not a state museum as the name implies. It is managed by the national commission for museums and monuments. The museum is located on Harley street same as the popular BMH hospital and is easy to locate. Pictures are not allowed inside the Museum for obvious reasons but one is allowed to take pictures outside and of the reception. There is a small entrance fee and one gets an asisted tour of the museum. The museum closes at 4pm, has a lot of parking space and a sit out where one can get drinks.Theme of the museum is Life in the Niger delta and it show cases some contemporary art work e.g Terra cotta, flex, the dufuna etc.The museum has 2 galleries. The first one showcases the Economic life in the region both in pictorial as well as objects on display e.g elements of precolonial trade, monies (copper wires, coral beads, bottles, pipes, tobacco), textile looms, arts and craft e.g pottery, fishing techniques and implements, oil exploration and refining, agricultural implements. The second showcases the social life of the region - exhibition of boat regattas, masks and masquerades, head dresses, musical instruments and dance. The building needs to be better maintained to ensure this last for generations to come.
