Lagos Central Mosque is an important jumat mosque in Lagos Island and home of the Chief Imam of Lagos.[1] It is located along the busy Nnamdi Azikiwe Street. The current Mosque was opened for use in May 1988, displacing an earlier mosque that was built between 1908 and 1913. The chief Imam leads jumat service at the Mosque and he is the custodian of the mosque. Over the years, titles have been given to individuals by officials of the mosques executive council. A prominent title is the Baba Adinni, first held by a Mr. Runmonkun and recently bestowed on A.W. Elias, Wahab Folawiyo and Abdul Hafiz Abou. The first two title holders played significant roles in the construction of a new modern mosque. The first central mosque in Lagos was developed by the Jamat Muslim Council of Lagos who established an executive council of the Lagos Central Mosque around 1905. The new mosque was completed in July 1913 and served the Lagos community for 70 years.Ideas about building a new mosque began soon after the golden jubilee celebration of the old central mosque in 1963. The old mosque was deemed archaic by some members who wanted a new befitting edifice for dawa while some preferred an extension of the old structure. Initially, funds were raised in 1973 for the construction of an extension to the old mosque and purchase of adjoining properties. The plan was later shelved with majority of members preferring a new edifice, the old mosque was finally was demolished in 1983. Members then attended Friday prayers at a nearby Alli-Balogun mosque until the new mosque was completed.Opened by President Babangida on May 28, 1988, the new mosque was built by G. Cappa Ltd. It has four prominent minarets, two small and two tall ones, the smaller ones are placed on top of the entrance and the taller ones flanked the west and east wing of the building. The building space is about one acre and consumes 50 metres of space along Nnamdi Azikiwe. The new building entrance leads to a riwaq, accentuated by decorated columns and beside it is the courtyard or Sahn. The prayer function is served by a 750 sq meter prayer hall with a central dome made of metal that is 15 metres in diameter and conspicuous outside because of its gold plated aluminium cladding. There is space underneath the building for the vaults of deceased Imams and prominent members and for use as a drive in garage. The building also has an office block, reference library, Islamic centre and apartment for the Chief Imam.
For all your Muslim attires, this is the best place to be and trust me a very amazing place for you to worship
Nice, cosy and comfortable worship centre especially on Fridays
You can get Moslem outfits and prayer gear here
I did not hate the place, very nice pls
I dont have so much to say about This mosque but I learnt it is the Second oldest mosque in Lagos built over 30years ago. This place house Muslim who want to offer prayers to God. And around it you will find hausas and some yorubas selling some Muslims wares like caps, hijabs, danshiki, guinea brocade, ablution kettle, prayer mats in different forms and sizes. The road where its situated leads to the famous Tom Jones market where traders also displayed wares on the road. Its immediate surrounding is very dirty due to the crowd, and this road is usually heavy with traffic both vehicles and pedestrians especially before and after jumat services on Friday at about 2pm, so if you find yourself around move around with utmost caution.
The mosque is very classic and self comfort
Big enough to accommodate people for prayers and nice lectures
The central mosque is a big mosque, jummat prayers are observed there every Friday.
Lovely place to buy quality cloth
A beautiful edifice to behold. Massive and always crowded as usual.
Organized... Love it
Home for prayers amd its a beauty to behold. Built at the centre heart of Eko market where he can come shop and also find time to pray to your God. God bless Nigeria.
Holy place in a market environment.
Its a very busy area with lots buying and selling around and so close to oluwole plaza
Well structured......

A very good place to be
Giant mosque with many worshippers
Masha-Allah.... A beautiful place to connect with your Rabb
A beautiful place to pray
Nice exterior and interior. Despite being in the center of a market, all noise from outside is being excluded and you are able to concentrate on your prayers or meditations. Also i observed water is always readily available. If you are not able to locate the ablution center on your own, simply ask one of the congregants.Happy worshipping 🤗
The best mosque in lagos
It is a usually rowdy place with no parking around the mosque. So you have to find a place to park some distance away. However, it is a good place to go shopping as there are many shops around the mosque selling fabric, bags and even religious items in front of the mosque. Brace yourself for the crowd around here especially in a Friday afternoon.
Nice place, just the amount of human traffic
Where we communicate with Him
A Big Prayer House located in a very Busy Area,Nice Architecture worth mentioningSecurity also in place 😊Where is more secure than the place of Worship?God heart is set to true and genuine worship regardless of noisy situations around...Lagos indeed a centre of excellence 😇

A blissful mosque
New innovation has taken place in this area GOD blessed the fed & state government
Lagos state central mosque located in the heart of Lagos Island is a gigantic edifice that signals the presence of Islam in Lagos. It is popularly called Moshalashi Jimoh. And located on Nnamdi Azikiwe street. Very close tobit is Balogun market, Idumota and Idumagbo markets. Looking for Parking space is a no go area as the environs is filled with people and activities all year round.
This is the house of Allah - Do not leave 1 star.
It a very large mosque for almost a thousand attend
Here is were Muslim Worship of Friday and other days, I really like the Place
There are usually lots of hold ups and traffic in this place, but there is a recent ban of bike and tricycle in Lagos, this really made the pls e to be at least peaceful and free for the past 1 week ago now
Good
Expect high human and vehicular movement during service hours especially on Fridays from 12pm to 3pm thereabout. It serves as an important worship center for the Muslims around the area. Sometimes, it could get really messy here as litter fills the outside and entrances after service. Take caution with your belongings. It gets really tight here.
Very big with a vast praying ground.Neatly kept always.Maa Shaa Allah
This is the Lagos central mosque, a very nice and large edifice, neat environment.
Its so nice
The no 1 Mosque in Lagos state
Its a place to be
Its a place of worship for my Muslim Brothers and also a very busy place too, due to Balogun market Arand there.
You will find this mosque in Balogun existing side by side with the market, its an architectural piece to behold.
Excellent
A beautiful relic at the centre of Lagos buzzing Island. How unfortunately for Muslims who would love to pray in it; there are not less than 3 graves buried inside the underground pavement! This, ultimately, will invalidate their prayers (Salat). Only few people know about the underground cemetery!
THE MOSQUE IS A UNIQUE STRUCTURE CAREFULLY BUILT AND LAVISHLY FURNISHED AND EQUIPPED. IN ANOTHER SENSE, IT IS AN EXTENSION OF THE IDUMOTA MARKET. PRODUCTS FROM SAUDI ARABIA, UAE (DUBAI) AND OTHER ISLAMIC NATIONS ARE SOLD AROUND THE PREMISES. IF YOU NEED ANY KIND OF ISLAMIC MATERIAL / RELIGIOUS THINGS, PAY A VISIT TO THE LAGOS CENTRAL MOSQUE.
Iconic edifice in the heart of lagos island.Visited shops around the mosque. Located shops where dyeable t-shirts for adire and batik. Also, saw a lot of shops selling materials for Muslim faithfuls.
In the heart of Lagos. Place can also be very rowdy due to buying and selling activities almost everywhere
Awesome
I love the mosque simply because of good Alfas
It all walwys look tith and people should keep they stuff carefully
Very easy to locate. You can shop for Muslim clothing materials, prayer books and other accessories

Beautiful view, situated at the capital of the state, alausa Ikeja
Good location accessibility is very easy but no parking space.
A great place for muslims to feel the impact of allah with all the preaching, this is like the biggest in lagos and always neat there is no time i will.pass the area and not see it clean. Its like a sanctuary for people . Allah is in that place and a place is worship is always a sanctuary, a place of refuge for people who seek him
Great Mosque surrounded by shopping centers. Clothing materials, dresses, shoes and other materials. Located on Lagos Island.
Its big enough but lil park space, though, its as a result of its location
A very big mosque strategically located to serve all.#accessible
Needs generally to be improved and continuous maintenance.
Very good mosque
Ge its the biggest and nice mosque in Lagos island and Lagos state that Muslim believe to be praying and prayers answer on time when you pray in the mosque
A place where worship of God takes place and where u can get islamic materials like Hijab, Quran, spiritual materials and so on
The vicinity truly described Lagos has a centre of excellence
Crowdy
A very calm place to get closer to God.
A strong and solid monument but inappropriately maintained. The basement is filthy and very dirty. Mosque is open to attack by terrorists because of the way the entire surrounding has been let out to traders bordering the perimeter fences and even the frontage. There are no CCTV, no fire alarm system. Vulnerable.
Its a very lovely mosque to pray in 😍😍but you gotta go early enough to grab a spot and bypass the traffic during rush hour
This is a serene place to be once the call to prayer is made while shopping on the Island
Market place
A gigantic edifice in the very centre of Lagos Island, sitting on a sizable part of Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos Island. The bejeweled structure finished in Arabic architecture and decoration is a central figure in the landscape and can be sighted from many conner of the town. Of course it is the Islamic capital of Lagos state.
MAGNIFICENT ARCHITECTURE OF LAGOS ISLAND
Cool
A place for Muslim worship within the popular idumota market.
Its a place along Nnamdi Azikiwe street surrounded by clothing marketers
Good business environment with a place to worship
The market is nice. Fabrics, perfumes, herbs, etc....And its quite close to Idumota
I would say the architecture of the building is very nice and different from anything around Lekki 1. It is a big mosque. Maybe the biggest in Lekki 1, but on Fridays which is their prayer days, they are very irresponsible. They dont bother to control the traffic they generate from 2pm. The place is also literally turned into a market square with all sorts of wares displayed even on the kerbs. Its a difficult and fearful place to pass on Fridays because of the volatile and violent nature attached to the religion.
Muslim worship centre and close to Balogun market

Mashaalla! One of the most beautiful and well maintained Masjid in Nigeria at heart of Lagos Island just opposite the popular Oluwole shopping mall. To stand a chance of praying the Friday prayers inside the mosque one need to be there latest 13:00. Sermons are mostly delivered in Arabic, Yoruba and some English.
Directly opposite oluwole parking lot, so if youre coming with your car, its a good place to pray
Good place to buy Muslim apparels
It was strategically built just opposite the parking lot serving the community.
Lovely praying environment and lots of shopping is done all round the mosques location
An ancient mosque located within Balogun market, Lagos Island. On a typical Friday, the mosque is always busy, with traffic on the road leading to the mosque during Jummat prayer. Also, at the entrance are Northeners and market women selling Islamic materials and stationeries.
