The faculty is the oldest Faculty in any Nigeria University and University of Ibadan. Teaching and research started at the current site of the Faculty in 1953 and developed rapidly from six to eleven Departments. The Faculty is known for high quality education in the Sciences with collaborative tentacles within and outside Nigeria. The Faculty is a leading academic centre, and a self-administered community of scholars.

Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan, is a broad faculty with science-based departments like Chemistry, Botany, Mathematics, Computer science among others.The faculty is rich in seasoned lecturers and sound members of staff. Each department has its own teaching and research facilities except for general lecture theatres.
