As a lover of all things art, a visit to Nike art gallery can never be forgotten, from the entrance you are greeted by sculptures depicting real life, sculptures made of metals. The building houses spectacular art, colorful and educative. A tour guide will show you around and tell you colorful tales of the Nike and the art within. Please note that all the art on display are for sale

The exterior of this place is gorgeous - would be great for photoshoots. However, the space itself was lacking in certain art, especially for a place with 3d art on the buildings and fence. We also would have liked to see the workshop side of this gallery and workshop* as that was lacking. Then, noone attended to us for a while and then afterward, we had to wait another 10-15minutes to get the key to go into the gallery, afterwhich they had to clean the space. It was a great place for a one-time visit but so much more could be done to make this a worthy center.

Loved the space and the entire thought put into this! I was so glad I pulled my friends in! Getting the guide to explain and show the Tie and Dye process as well as learning the ideas behind the buildings and paintings were amazing! I had a blast!

I was disappointed for several reasons:1. No electricity. In my opinion, it would be better to run the gallery a couple of hours a week when youre sure of power rather than leaving it open and having no power.2. The person that met me at the door was unprofessional and didnt even try to spend any time explaining or describing the art works rather he hung around which brings me to 3. In a quest to get me to buy something, I believe he lied about the cost of the postcards.Other than the above, the gallery is good, the artworks are amazing and if you appreciate African culture, youd love Nike art gallery.

It didnt quite look like much from the outside but I was completely blown away when I entered the compound and also into the gallery itself. Purely traditional and African in everyway. Tour costs a price of NGN 500 per individual. The road leading to needs serious intervention though.

Nike Art gallery is owned by the incredibly talented chief Mrs Nike Davies Okundaye, a 68 year old renowned artist and fashion designer who has dedicated her life to telling the African story through her works. I remember reading about how Mrs Okundaye didnt receive much formal art education growing up after she dropped out of school due to lack of funds to support her education. She still defied all odds to carve a niche for herself and today she is globally recognised for her efforts. She has been featured on several documentaries on CNN, CNBC, Al-Jazeera, etc and even lectured in the prestigious Harvard University.Artist and Designer Nike Davies Okundaye invites you to visit her Nigeria, an ancient culture that thrives in modern cities, a world that moves easily between talking drums and the internet.Nike has given workshops on traditional Nigerian textiles to audiences in the US and Europe during the past 20 years. While she is known for her colorful batik and paintings that offers a modernist gloss on traditional themes, she was brought up amidst the traditional weaving and dying practiced in her native village of Ogidi in Western Nigeria. Her fame as an artist and teacher has taken her all over the globe. Now, she invites you to visit her in Nigeria and immerse yourself in African tradition.Nike found that the traditional methods of weaving and dying that had been her original inspiration were fading in Nigeria. She used her international success to launch a cultural revival, building art centers where young Nigerians master traditional arts and crafts. You can now visit the world of the Yoruba, to explore a culture that has flourished in Western Nigeria for well over 1000 years.Whether you are a specialist in the arts, an enthusiast of African arts or merely interested in a brief immersion in a new culture, Nike offers the opportunity to see Nigeria with fresh eyes. You stay at guest houses at her homes in Lagos, Oshogbo and Ogidi. You travel through Nigeria in air conditioned cars and buses with your guides and teachers. You spend your days visiting museums, galleries, and traditional markets, or studying the techniques used by Yoruba craftsmen and artists. You join her family and her apprentices at mealtimes to sample Nigerian specialties.

Nike Art Gallery, is one of the good places in Abuja to visit. The place is big and its been decorated with beautiful art works and some part for farming . Be careful while visiting though, they were loosed dogs in the compound, just incase you also scared of dogs like me. Enjoy #TravelWithChefApril

I went here at the recommendation of locals and Google to pick up a local art piece. While many of the paintings were large, I was able to talk to the shopkeeper to get a smaller piece that I could easily transport back home. They have a public toilet but it is not wheelchair-accessible. The grounds itself are not paved and there are steps so they would present a challenge for those with mobility concerns.
